On Thursday, February 14th, is Valentines Day. Valentine’s Day is a beautiful holiday celebrating all love and relationships. We give gifts and spend time with our spouses, soulmates, family and friends. This day is celebrated all over the world. Valentine’s day is derived from many different legends, the feast of lupercus, defiance of saint valentine and the belief that it is the beginning of mating season for birds.
It’s a day of celebrating romance and a time when people show their love and affection to one another. Valentine’s Day’s traditions are most often giving Roses, teddy bears, cards, perfume or chocolates along with a romantic date night. In schools children give Valentines Cards with heart candy saying, “be my mine.” Over the years it was sought out to be the only day to express your love to your partner, spouse, family and friends.
But, most of the time you see the people are mostly happy couples. This can often lead people who are single, separated or going through a break up feel awfully lonely and depressed.
But! It does not have to be this way!! You can still enjoy Valentine’s Day whether if you’re in a relationship or not!! This holiday isn’t just for couples, it’s a wonderful time for you to express and show love to everyone in your life, to the ones you love and appreciate- the ones that matter most. You can show love to your family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, teachers, pets and of course yourself! Here are a few tips to help you get through this holiday.
Valentine’s day is all about love, so why not do something for your own self? Loving yourself is so important. You cannot give out love to others properly or even receive love if you don’t love yourself and put your own self first. When you don’t love yourself, and have self respect, you can sometimes draw others away from you and seem unattractive too to people.
For Valentine’s Day show yourself some love, you most definitely deserve it. To help improve self-love here are some things you can do:
1. Start by telling yourself positive daily affirmations each day, remember positive thoughts attract positive energy. So the more you tell yourself positive affirmations the more your mind will have no choice but to think positive thoughts. Thus will draw in positive energy. Look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself these words “I love you” and ” I am beautiful.” Keep telling yourself these things even when you don’t feel like it.
2. Stop comparing yourself to others. Everyone is different and we all are unique in our own special way. Try to find something you like about yourself and accentuate it.
3. Nourish your body with healthy foods that will make your body feel good and function better such as whole grains, fruits, veggies, lean cuts of meat, low fat dairy products, and healthy fats like avocados and peanut butter.
4. Start getting into a fitness routine, go for long walks outside, join a gym or you can even work out from home! Working out and being active will greatly improve your mood; your health and your body will look great.
5. Let go of the negative comments and rude remarks people may have said to you in the past.
Loving yourself will enhance your spiritual energy and increase your ability to love stronger for others and appreciate their gifts.
2. Volunteer your time
Try looking up special non-profit and function organizations in your local area and see if they have any events plan and give your time. You will find yourself feeling so embodied with fulfillment of love and gratitude that will leave you having special memories every Valentine’s Day. Also, note that giving love, fills you with love.
So, for Valentine’s Day do something for your own self, give yourself a gift, like book yourself a day at the spa, or even get a massage, facial, manicure, and pedicure. Try even splurging on your favorite foods, like go to your favorite restaurant, or indulge a little on some Valentine’s Day candy. Eat the foods you enjoy and crave. Or you can even do something for yourself that your body will after thank you for like drinking a healthy green smoothie, they give you tons of energy, help your digestion, improve your health, and can even help promote weight loss.
Why not try to go out and see a movie, or even just relax at home. Get a good dose of laughter and watch a comedy movie, having a good dose of laughter can always make you feel better.
4. Buy Yourself A Present.
This doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive, just something you would normally put back or change your mind about getting for yourself. Maybe its something you’ve always been wanting but you’re hesitant on buying.
5. Value Your Friends and Family
Valentine’s day is not just about having a partner or about being with your true love. It’s about love in general and showing that love to those that to those who matter most in your life and express to them how grateful you are for having them in your life.
If any of your friends are single on Valentine’s Day, make a friends night out and go do something fun and exciting like seeing a movie, play, concert, club, or even go bowling.
Another fun thing you can do is host a single’s party or make a special valentine’s day dinner for your friends and family.
6. Make it fun!
It doesn’t matter what you do on February 14th, just love and indulge yourself. This is your time and you deserve it! Make Valentines day a special and fun event for yourself. Make this day your day. Remember, you do not need a romantic partner or spouse to celebrate Valentines Day, and it doesn’t make you any less of a person!!! Think about all the good things you have in your life and be grateful for those.
Remember that it is just one day out of the year and it does not mean you need to be in a romantic relationship to celebrate! Love is what you make of it. A date on the calendar might be nice, but really, has nothing to do with the concept of affection.
