I was so excited when this book was released and I’m grateful for the chance to share it with all of you as well! Crystal Healing and Sacred Pleasure, by Vanessa Cuccia, founder of Chakrubs, is a powerful book all about using crystals to explore our sacred sexuality.

For starters, it’s a beautiful book. The hardcover and linen binding are gorgeous, the photographs are simple and powerful and the layout is stunning. It does sometimes favor aesthetics over function, with small text and wide margins, but for a result that’s this pretty, I’m not complaining.

What I love about this book is how specific it is. Cuccia doesn’t try to be all things to all people, she just focuses in on her passion topic and delves into the deep, fulfilling details. She starts off by explaining her own sexual journey and how she found an affinity for crystals to help herself realize her strengths, her desires and her magick. She gets personal, she gets vulnerable and it works: by the time you get to the main content of the book, you’re already invested in Cuccia’s personal story and relating to her struggles and desires.

I was absolutely thrilled when I reached the primary portion of the book as it exceeded my expectations. Each chapter focuses on a chakra, which I wasn’t expecting but is a great way to organize crystals. Chakras give us a beautifully simple way to talk about our emotions in relation to different aspects of life, such as love, sex and spirituality.

The book takes a sensitive but forthright approach to sexuality that I think is so important in the modern world. We have spent so many generations stifling conversations about sex, gender, pleasure, what sex means to the individual and to the collective and how to explore your own desires and what feels good to you. Those centuries of oppression are boiling over these days and conversations like those that Crystal Healing and Sacred Pleasure start are wonderfully healing and nurturing.

Each chapter gives an overview of what the energy of that chakra is all about, followed by what that chakra looks and feels like when it is “healthy” and when it “needs acknowledgement”. The chapter then details a specific ritual for working with crystals in an erotic way in order to heal and connect with that particular chakra. For example, the root chakra ritual is called “The Lotus Grows Out of the Mud” and includes a sensitive exploration of the genitals and thighs, while the third eye chakra exercise is called “Summoning the Power of Dreams” and includes suggestions for lucid dreaming.

My favorite part of the book aside from the detailed rituals are the crystal pages. Each chapter has a full page spread with photos of suggested crystals to use for that chakra, followed by columns of information about those crystals and their benefits. It’s both beautiful and user-friendly – my Virgo heart’s dream-come-true!

Overall, I love this book. It’s visually stunning, sexually arousing and spiritually awakening. I encourage you to pick up a copy and see for yourself how crystals, pleasure and magick are intertwined.
