One of the most mysterious organs in the human body is the pineal gland, also known as epiphysis cerebri, inner eye, or third eye. It is a small endocrine gland situated in the center, between the two hemispheres, of your brain. This small gland is actually shaped like a pine cone, which is why it got the name pineal gland. Many spiritual teachers believe that the process of pineal gland activation holds one of the keys to enlightenment.
When we look at the pineal gland from the outside, it looks similar to a pine cone. However, some of its internals actually have certain features that somewhat resemble the interior of an eye. These eye-like features of the pineal gland could be the reason why certain spiritual teachers like to call it the third eye.
The inner eye has a deep rooted spiritual significance. Many ancient civilizations and spiritual teachers believe that when the pineal gland is activated, it allows us to see beyond the perception of ordinary sight. This inner eye exists in all types of vertebrate life forms and has been described as the “principal seat of the soul” by Rene Descartes.
Why the pineal gland is often referred to as the third eye
Before moving forward with the spiritual connection between the pineal gland and the third eye, let us take a look at the function of this gland from a biological perspective. The pineal gland produces certain compounds that are beneficial to the central nervous system. Two of them are pinoline and melatonin. Melatonin is an antioxidant that protects the body from free radicals. Besides keeping free radicals in check, melatonin also regulates sleep patterns.
The relationship between the pineal gland and third eye has been deeply studied by many researchers. One of them is Rene Descartes, a French philosopher, mathematician, and writer. He indicated that the pineal gland is the point of connection between the body and the intellect.
The importance of the pineal gland and its relationship to the third eye aren’t limited to studies done by Descartes. There is a mention of the same relationship in the Hindu tradition revolving around the more spiritual kundalini energy chakra. Many religions throughout the world also support this spiritual connection between the pineal gland and the third eye.
The pineal gland has been given prime importance as a seat of energy chakra and is often linked to thesixth chakra. It is considered as the gateway to higher consciousness and symbolizes a higher state of peace and enlightenment. This may be why some spiritual teachers believe it acts like an inner portal, allowing us to travel to other dimensions in our astral state.
It is remarkable to note that in both Hinduism and Buddhism, and especially in Indian iconography, a dot, mark or bindi is worn or made on the forehead to denote the third eye. This mark also features in stone iconography of gods, goddesses, and other deities or enlightened beings. In Indian tradition, this point in the forehead is also known as “the eye of knowledge.”
According to Eastern spiritual traditions, the inner eye is associated with intellect, out-of-body experience, clairvoyance, precognition and intuition. In fact, those people who have been able to successfully activate their third eye are commonly known as “guru” or “seer.”
How to activate the pineal gland (third eye)
The pineal gland can be activated by just about anyone through meditation and certain energy healing techniques. In the teachings of the Hindu culture, if you master the art of meditation, especially the kundalini chakra meditation, you should be able to use and control your third eye better. The truth is that everyone’s third eye is already activated to a certain point, but most people don’t know how to control it. Have you ever had an experience when you were about to fall asleep and started seeing images flashing in front of you? These images are often the results of your third being activated.
As for stimulating your pineal gland so that it can work more effectively, one of the methods is by allowing your eyes to absorb sunlight during the early morning hours or late evening hours. The best time to do this is when the sun is at the horizon. During this time, the light emitted from the sun isn’t as strong and thus it is safer to look at it.
Some words of caution. When you first start doing this act, only look at the sun for about 10 seconds. As your eyes become more use to it, you can increase the time to about one minute and then allow some time for your eyes to recover before repeating the process. Once the sun rises above the horizon, you must not directly look at it for more than a few seconds or it could cause damages to your eyes.
The pineal gland or third eye is often associated with the sixth chakra. Since this chakra is believed to be associated with opening various paths to wisdom, if you can activate the third eye and use it wisely, you can tap into your inner wisdom. Many seers have even said that if your third eye remains in the dormant state, it could cause spiritual darkness to prevail.
Why sodium fluoride is toxic to your pineal gland
The pineal gland is very sensitive to certain toxic chemicals, such as sodium fluoride. Contrary to what we have been told, sodium fluoride isn’t good for our health. The natural version of fluoride is known as calcium fluoride, which is naturally found in soil and ground water. On the other hand, sodium fluoride is created from the waste byproducts of the phosphate fertilizer industry. If you live in the United States, sodium fluoride is commonly found in conventional toothpaste and tap water. This version of fluoride is a neurotoxin and is toxic to the pineal gland for the reason that it can calcify it.
To protect your pineal gland from being calcified by sodium fluoride, you will need to stop drinking water that has sodium fluoride in it and stop eating food that is contaminated with this toxin. Also, avoid using dental products that have sodium fluoride in them. For other tips on how to avoid this neurotoxin, read this article titled What is Fluoride?
